Where do people get married in Yosemite?
Yosemite National Park is one of the most popular elopement locations in California or even the United States because of it’s unique half dome views and the variety of scenery that it offers. There simply is no other park like Yosemite! One of the biggest questions I get as a Yosemite elopement photographer is where to have a ceremony and which locations are the best for pictures. Each location has it’s own unique beauty about it and charm, and it can be such a tough decision to make!
Because of this, I created a list of ceremony locations with insights to help you select the perfect Yosemite ceremony location and to relieve your decision fatigue! Note that not all of these locations are open year round. Make sure to check out the Historical Seasonal Opening and Closing Dates from Yosemite’s official website for their roads, campgrounds, and trails!
Before we go over the different amazing ceremony locations, I want to inform you of the rules for having your ceremony at Yosemite NP.
- Ceremony sites are first-come, first-served basis and you have 2 hours (maximum) for your reserved ceremony. Once you sent in your application & payment (by mail), the Yosemite’s permit program manager will reach out by email within 2-7 business days to inform you that they have received your application. If your requested location has been booked or is unavailable, the permittee will inform you immediately to discuss an alternative ceremony location, time or preferred date. *The process of permit may take 1-2 months, so don’t worry if you don’t hear back from them right away.*
- They don’t grant wedding permits on holiday weekends or holidays (Saturday, Sunday & Monday).
- Unfortunately your furry-friend (pets) are not allowed to attend any wedding ceremonies.
- Visitors and peak season may affect your ceremony: highly recommend & encourage your ceremonies to be held in the morning time frames (before 10am).
- During your ceremony, is it prohibited the use of amplified music & microphones; speakers (with exception of 2-3inch portable speakers); throwing of bird seeds, rice & flower petals (even if its biodegradable), decorations, and the use of drones.
- Please follow Leave No Trace by avoid standing or walking on plants, grasses and tree roots. Standing under sequoia trees within sequoia grove locations is prohibited.
- Avoid bringing bouquets that has loose petals, seeds and pollen. Hire a local florists who knows the native species or opt out for faux or dry bouquets. Baby’s breath is prohibited.
- If your total group is less than 11 people (including you and your vendors), you may have your ceremonies at locations outside of the ceremony locations listed on the Yosemite National Park’s Website.
- Please respect the park resources and tread lightly.

When to Elope in Yosemite National Park
The wonderful thing about Yosemite is that it’s beautiful all year around. Every season offers a different experience. It’s important to keep in mind that a few of Yosemite’s iconic locations are seasonal, but the best time to elope in Yosemite is Spring & Fall (May & September – October).
Pros: Spring is a beautiful time to elope in Yosemite. This is when the waterfalls are at their time and wildflowers are blooming! Spring offers some sunning backdrops.
Cons: The weather in the spring can be unpredictable, and rain and snow are still a possibility!
Pros: Summer is one of the most popular times when it comes to others visiting Yosemite National Park. The weather is warm, sunny, and the waterfalls are still flowing at this time of year. Plus there are an abundance of outdoor activities.
Cons: Because summer is the the peak of tourist season, that means that it may be more crowded during your visit. If you’re looking for a very intimate elopement and less tourists, you may want to consider a different season!
Pros: Dreaming of beautiful foliage and fall colors? The leaves are changing and the crowds get smaller. The weather is pretty mild in the fall as well.
Cons: Some area’s may have limited access due to snow!
Pros: Winter is Yosemite is absolutely magical. If you’re dreaming of a winter wonderland elopement with snow capped mountains as your backdrop, winter is the perfect season!
Cons: Again, some areas may be closed due to the weather and snow! Weather can also be unpredictable.
Sunrise Elopement or Sunset Elopement?
The sunrises and sunsets in Yosemite National Park aren’t comparable to anywhere else. Maybe I’m biased, but there’s just nothing more romantic then watching the sun rise over the peaks and the park waking up or watching it fall and the park quieting down for the night.
If you’re dreaming of watching the park come to life and the sun rays rising above the mountains as you say your “I Do’s”, then a sunrise elopement might just be right up your alley. Sunrises in Yosemite are magical, and eloping at sunrise also allows you the entire day to plan other activities after your elopement. Overall, you can’t go wrong in planning a sunrise elopement! Check out this “Beautiful Sunrise Cliff-Edge Ceremony” for inspiration!
If watching the sunset together sounds like the most romantic way you and your partner can tie the knot, then a sunset elopement is the perfect choice! We can also add in some beautiful lantern photos at sunset. And if star gazing with your partner doesn’t sound incredibly romantic and a perfect way to end the night, I don’t know what does. Eloping at sunset doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy activities either. You can still get up early and enjoy your entire day or stay longer and make it an extended honeymoon experience! For inspiration, check out this “Taft Point Sunset Elopement“

“Please, trust me on this, and hire Julia.
You won’t be disappointed. She truly is the friendly expert”
“Julia is absolutely incredible! If you have any doubts about hiring her, toss them out the window because she will surpass all your expectations. Not only is she talented and professional, but she’s also kind, funny, and artistic. I had to reschedule my elopement due to health issues, and Julia was incredibly understanding and accommodating. She went above and beyond to ensure everything worked out smoothly. We had FaceTime meetings where we created a detailed game plan for the day, and she was an excellent communicator throughout the process.
Julia is a true master of her craft. She knows the locations like the back of her hand and is always ready to offer ideas for beautiful locations and poses. In the days leading up to the big day, Julia kept us informed about the weather, what to expect, and even shared packing tips. She leverages technology to deliver messages and timelines in a way that is easy and intuitive to use. With Julia, you’ll never feel out of the loop or caught off guard.
On the day of the shoot, Julia let us know when she was on her way and arrived punctually. After introductions, she immediately sprang into action. It was amazing to witness her at work, as she was bursting with creative ideas that she executed flawlessly. She effortlessly adjusted the lighting and arranged the environment to bring out the best in our photos. Her attention to detail was remarkable as she carefully posed our rings, clothing, and us, ensuring that every shot looked incredible. Julia doesn’t simply ask you to stand there and smile; she ensures that the photo will be amazing and removes any distractions from the frame. Beyond her expertise, Julia is a wonderful human being. She’s easy to talk to, cracks jokes, and genuinely cares. I felt a genuine connection with her, which translated into stunning photos because I felt completely at ease being photographed by her.
The best thing about Julia is her artistic vision. She transforms what’s in front of her into pure art. She provided clear and enjoyable instructions to bring her creative visions to life and capture perfect photos. Some of our favorite pictures were ideas that originated from her. Additionally, she excels at capturing a couple’s unique personality and is open to any ideas you might have. Whenever I asked, “Can we take a picture like this?” her response was always a cheerful “Of course!” followed by instructions to help us capture it beautifully. The entire day felt like a fun-filled date that we wished would never end. We were a bit sad (despite being exhausted) when it was over.”
