Magical Redwood Elopement Ceremony & Coastal Portraits

Josh & Julie's Magical Redwood Elopement

If you’re looking for the best locations for a redwood elopement, then Redwoods National Park is one of those locations that checks off all of the boxes. It offers beautiful scenery that you can truly get lost in! Located just 30 minutes from the main city, with fair rate lodging and accommodations, and just 1 hour from one of the most magical coasts and beaches, it truly is a wonderful redwood elopement location in California!

It is one of those locations that you WANT to spend all day exploring which is why most of my couples who elope in the Redwoods National Park choose a Full Day Experience (up to 12 hours). Let’s get into Julie and Josh’s redwood elopement, because I can’t wait to share it with you!

Josh & Julie's First Looks

Josh and Julie invited their closest friends to celebrate for few days but they chose to spend their redwood elopement day privately with their son. They got ready with their friends and had such a beautiful first look which made us all cry.

J & J have been together for 11 years and it was truly important for them to incorporate their love of nature and their son into their elopement day. They wanted to be immersed in nature and the fairy-tale like beauty of the Redwoods in California! Because of this, a redwood elopement fit their vision!

After our first call, I sent over all of the redwoods locations that I could think of. On this list was Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park in Redwood National Park. California has so many options for Redwood elopement locations but if you’re looking for the OG old-growth redwoods that you can barely grasp your head around, Redwood National Park is THE place to go. Without a doubt, they chose a Full Day Experience at Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for their elopement day.

For redwood elopements, I often like to give my couples the option to either pre-select their ceremony location or select it on the day of to make it spontaneous.

Julie and Josh chose to select their location on the day of their elopement which made it super adventurous. They picked the location with a fallen log surrounded by ferns and large redwoods trees. It was the perfect serene location to share their heartfelt vows. We all cried as they confessed their love for one another immersed in the redwood forest.

After we cried our eyes out, we explored more of the redwoods and captured amazing photos. And of course, solo shots of their son per his request!

I have to say that Julie wore the perfect dress for a redwood elopement! The dress was from Willowby Waters, and it was not only beautiful, but very flowy and roomy which is so ideal for an elopement where you’re exploring the redwoods and climbing.

Exploring The Coast of Samuel H. Boardman
Scenic Corridor in Southern Oregon

After taking in the magic of the redwoods, we then headed out to the beautiful coast in Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor in Southern Oregon. This area offers amazing sand dunes on the cliffs, which makes for some epic backdrops and fun adventures. On the way there, the way the sun was coming through the trees looked surreal.

They also had a mini picnic on the cliffs as we witnessed massive waves crashing into the natural bridge cliffs. Josh, Julia, and their son explored the cliffs and soaked-in the views together. We then took off to our final destination which was the climax of their day. The view of this coast never gets old, the multiple islands in this cove reminds me of the movie Avatar. We watched as the sun set over the horizon. We dug our feet into the sand and felt like kids again!

It was beautiful to see them run around and just be themselves, enjoying what nature has to offer. As we started to see the stars pop up in the sky, we busted out the lanterns and illuminated their path. We waited until it got darker and captured the stars as we ended the day.
