Alle & Josh's Adventurous Elopement in Big Sur, California
I love California for its endless variety of landscapes, and if you know me, you’ve probably heard me say, “everything works out in the end.” Well, this elopement was proof of that.
When A & J first reached out to me, they were planning a March elopement in Yosemite, drawn to its breathtaking meadows, waterfalls, and valley views. But with unpredictable spring weather, we quickly realized we might need a backup plan. After chatting and brainstorming, Big Sur came up—and it instantly felt right. I shared stories from my past couples and my love for Big Sur’s springtime magic, and before we knew it, we had a new plan: an elopement in Big Sur, including Garrapata State Park and Garapata Beach.
We started the day in a hidden, secluded spot that only the locals know, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. A & J kicked things off with a first look—Josh waited at the end of the trail while Alle quickly slipped into her wedding dress. From this spot, we had a stunning view of one of Big Sur’s most iconic landmarks, Bixby Bridge, and capturing it in the background was such a dream. Even with the sunshine, the ocean mist created a soft, hazy effect as waves crashed into the rugged cliffs—a breathtaking backdrop for an unforgettable elopement.
Intimate Vows: A Big Sur Elopement with Oceanfront Vows
For their vows, we headed to the second location—a quiet, scenic hill where Alle and Josh could share their words without an audience. I wanted to make sure they had absolute seclusion, a space where they could be fully present with each other.
We were the only ones there, and it was breathtaking to watch them exchange vows with the sound of the waves crashing behind them. The ocean felt alive—some of the waves were so massive you could actually hear them thunder against the cliffs.
I still dream about that moment. This is the kind of experience I just can’t replicate—the way the sheer scale of nature makes you feel small in the best way possible. It’s overwhelming, in the most beautiful sense, to stand in a place like this and take it all in. An elopement in Big Sur isn’t just about the views; it’s about the feeling—how the landscape, the weather, and every single detail align to create something truly unforgettable.
Why a Garapatta State Park Elopement in Big Sur is Pure Magic in the Spring
After their vows, we made our way to Garrapata Beach, where the Calla Lilies were in full bloom—a rare and breathtaking sight. These delicate white flowers typically bloom from late January to early April, and we were lucky to catch them at their peak. With the golden sunset casting a warm glow, we could have stayed in Calla Lily Valley until nightfall, soaking in the beauty before the blooms started to fade.
The beach itself was absolutely incredible. We had the entire stretch to ourselves, making it feel like our own little paradise. Alle and Josh ran barefoot in the sand, completely carefree—it was one of those moments that felt pure and childlike in the best way. Even though it was March, the sun was warm, the breeze was gentle, and everything about this Garapatta State Park elopement in Big Sur felt like it was meant to be.
A Garapatta State Park Elopement in Big Sur with Sunset Hikes and Starry Skies
For the final location, I suggested Garrapata State Park—home to some of the most breathtaking sunsets in Big Sur. And on this day, it did not disappoint. Alle and Josh were adventurous souls, determined to take in all the beauty Big Sur had to offer. As the sun dipped toward the horizon, we hiked down to a hidden natural bridge, a spot that felt like a secret world of its own.
As we explored, the first stars started to appear in the sky, adding to the magic of the moment. Honestly, days like this make it so hard to leave—you just want to stay, breathe it all in, and hold onto every second. This Garapatta State Park elopement in Big Sur was nothing short of unforgettable.
